NDOT DBEs: Networking & Connecting

Event: NDOT DBEs: Networking & Connecting

Presenter: Kathy Carrico, UNR-NSBDC State Training Director

Description:

 In April 2012, the NSBDC provided the first of many professional training sessions to existing and future business owners with Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) status and others looking to become DBE Certified, specifically in the highway construction industry. Our upcoming training programs are designed to ultimately help these business owners increase their chances of working on government contracts with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT).

Two goals of this program are:

  • Identify business owners who can qualify to become DBE certified and help them through the process;
  • Work with existing DBE business owners and help them work smarter in order to take their business to the next level.

This program is designed exclusively for business owners already established as a Disadvantaged Business Enterprise (DBE) or those looking to become DBE certified in order to bid for contracts with the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) on highway construction projects.

Agenda Items Include:

  • Building relationships with fellow DBEs
  • The value of talking and listening
  • How to follow up with new contacts
  • How to recognize value in other DBEs
  • Putting these skills to work to get NDOT contracts
